Tetra Pak is committed to running its business in an environmentally sound and sustainable manner. We set goals for continuous improvement in our development, sourcing, manufacturing, and transportation activities.

As part of that commitment, we take a long-term and life cycle view, while continually improving environmental performance and communicating openly with our stakeholders and reporting regularly on our performance. We facilitate and promote local collection and recycling activities for post-consumer carton packages. We also support our customers in developing environmentally acceptable solutions for their packaging material waste.
And during product development, we ensure that all our packages are suitable for recycling. New developments will thus include, where necessary, the identification and development of appropriate recycling technologies.

Renewability is a key environmental asset of our packaging portfolio. Hence, we consider it an important challenge to maintain or increase the total percentage of materials from renewable sources in our carton package portfolio. Furthermore, our board suppliers are required to have full knowledge of the origin of fibre sources used in the paperboard they provide us, and to avoid any sourcing from illegally harvested wood or intact and high conservation value forestlands.

Ultimately, it is our goal that all wood fibre in our liquid packaging board comes from forests which are independently certified as managed in accordance with principles of sustainable forest management. As a matter
of principle:

• We encourage open dialogue on key environmental matters with the communities in which we operate

• We support selected community-based initiatives and activities that promote greater environmental responsibility and awareness

• We develop information on the environmental profile of our products
which we willingly share with others

• We provide products that meet both customer and consumer needs,
that protect the quality and nutritional value of food, and prevent wastage
of food.

In Malaysia, we have teamed up with our partners, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd and Pascorp Paper Industries Bhd, to collect and recycle beverage cartons.
